We want<em>\u00a0everyone<\/em>\u00a0to feel at home posting comments on Forum365. We don\u2019t know what your home is like, but we know how we expect people to behave when they visit ours. That\u2019s why we reserve the right to delete comments and ban users as needed to keep the comment threads here civil and substantive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our No. 1 house rule is simple:&nbsp;<strong>Don\u2019t be a jerk<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Want to be the kind of commenter we\u2019d love to bring home to Thanksgiving dinner? Here\u2019s what we like to see in comments:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Weigh in with smart, informed ideas that contribute further to the story.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Give us useful, constructive criticism.<\/strong>&nbsp;Spot a typo or an error? Let us know and we will correct it.<\/li><li><strong>Demonstrate and share the intelligence, wisdom, and humor we know you possess.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Don\u2019t feed the trolls.<\/strong>&nbsp;You wouldn\u2019t dive into a debate with our ill-informed, weird uncle Gary just for the heck of it. And you definitely wouldn\u2019t feed him. (We told you he was weird.) Downvote and flag comments instead.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Although we can\u2019t be everywhere at once, here are some of the kinds of comments we\u2019re going to do our best to curtail:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Promoting your own brand, product, or blog.<\/strong>\u00a0So you\u2019ve got a climate change solution that will simultaneously solve world poverty. Great. Send it through our\u00a0contact form, you Elon Musk, you.<\/li><li><strong>Impersonating authors or other commenters.<\/strong>\u00a0We can\u2019t believe we have to say this, but: Don\u2019t do that. It\u2019s weird.<\/li><li><strong>Comments that make it clear you didn\u2019t read the article.<\/strong>\u00a0Enraged that we didn\u2019t mention X in a story about Y? Slow down, Speedy McFingerson. If you\u2019d made it past paragraph two, you\u2019d see a very well thought-out discussion of that X you hold so dear.<\/li><li><strong>Comments that are completely out of left field.<\/strong>\u00a0Sometimes discussions veer off a bit, but are still related to the original subject. That is fine. Hijacking the conversation to promote off-topic commentary is not.<\/li><li><strong>Threats \u2014 no matter how vague \u2014 against the author or other commenters.<\/strong>\u00a0Things can get heated. Before you casually mention your foe\u2019s home address, think of your Mother Earth. (Bonus points if you never use the phrase \u201cMother Earth.\u201d)<\/li><li><strong>Racism, sexism, homophobia, you get the drift.<\/strong>\u00a0Call us the PC Police, fine, but don\u2019t say we didn\u2019t warn you when you get tased. **And by tased, we mean banned or deleted. Grist.org has not \u2014 and will not \u2014 ever own a taser, and even if we were to own a solar-charged taser, we\u2019d be too scared to use it.<\/li><li><strong>Trolling.<\/strong>\u00a0If you\u2019re a climate denier just out for a good trolling and are not contributing meaningfully to the conversation, we\u2019ll be pushing you back under the bridge.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Forum365 Comment Policy We want you to feel at home when you post a comment on Forum365.
